| Mishan – A Forerunner in Senior Care in Israel | ||||
|
The State of Israel was established by young idealistic people who gave willingly of their time and their talents during their best years, with no thought for the elderly or what their own needs would be later on. Aging simply was not on the national agenda. Mishan was established to fill the gap – and for 75 years (even prior to the establishment of the Jewish state) has dedicated itself to developing a “basket of solutions” for seniors – from independent living to assisted living to round-the-clock support and medical care. Today Mishan operates ten seniors’ communities. A staff of 1,500 employees is devoted to meeting the needs of Mishan’s 4,850 residents. Mishan is a leader in nation-wide efforts to enhance the status of seniors and a key player in social and medical research benefiting retirees and the aging.

| Care for Children , As Well | ||||
|
In addition to its primary focus on seniors, Mishan also addresses the needs of orphan children-at-risk. Mishan operates three residences for children with special needs who have been forced by circumstance to leave their homes. While the children’s needs present special challenges to Mishan’s staff, both seniors and children-at-risk share a common feature: Both are weak links in society that are especially in need of empathy and protection.

Mishan was established in 1931 by the Histadrut (the Israeli Federation of Labor) as part of the Labor Movement’s enlightened social agenda. To this day it serves as a key institution in the social welfare program of the New Federation of Labor and has become the ‘gold standard’ for quality seniors’ residents and a leader in the struggle for seniors’ rights and development of state-of-the-art health and welfare services
